I have been exceptionally slack with this awesome blog over the last 6 months!! So much has happened in the entertainment world, so many movies seen that I promised reviews, so many trailers, photo op’s and gossip tid bits that I haven’t been keeping up to date on! Time to turn that around and get cracking again. It won’t be as crazy like when this blog first began, it will be more “when I see, hear or read” then you too shall “see, hear or read”. Apparently I still have my finger on the pulse of the latest happenings in Hollywood still!
So to keep in line with where we left off last time, I leave you with one of the many trailers that are out there now of my most anticipated movie of all time – Prometheus
Thanks to the fine folks at Collider for sourcing these pictures, of Ridley Scott’s upcoming Prometheus, that were (or are to be featured) in Entertainment Weekly. Finally something more than a single image that was released in what feels like a billion years ago. I personally hope the movie looks a lot more darker & grittier, but I wouldn’t imagine pictures for a magazine to be overlly dark anyway so I’m not too worried. Also Michael Fassbenders head looks weirdly smooth and wrongly photoshopped. Still, YAY!!! Every tiny bit of news makes me that little wetter for this movie!
So it seems that Disney is rolling out another classic in 3D since The Lion King was such a success recently. Beauty & the Beast will be hitting theaters this January in 3D. Now part of me is really excited about this cinematic re-release and not because it’s in 3D. Beauty & the Beast is my favourite Disney movie of all time! I only recently purchased the dvd and have watched it quite a few times already… and by watch I mean sung and danced to it quite a few times. I may be 23 but when ‘Be Our Guest’ comes on, the child in me soars!
I would have been happy if this was re-released just in 2D for the fun of seeing it on the big screen, I don’t care for this whole “lets turn everything that we loved into 3D to make some more $$$!” that Hollywood production companies are starting to embrace (eg. Titanic in 3D). Though I think I’ll somehow manage to sit through 3D for this amazing classic Disney movie!
Ok so I seem to be pretty heavy on the trailers today & yesterday but that’s because I was so busier earlier in the week that I missed chucking them all up as they came out.
Anyway, Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror is another Snow White movie though unlike Snow White and the Huntsman, this one is a far more comedic fairy tale style. It’s good that both these movies, while built on the same story by the Brothers Grimm, are two completely different movies in style. Sure there’s going to be a lot of comparisons but judging by the trailer I suspect we’re in for two completely different fun rides! At least this movie doesn’t have anyone in it I can’t stand so that’s a step in the right direction.
Starring Julia Roberts as the Queen, Lily Collins as Snow White, Armie (Sexy) Hammer as the Prince, and to top off an awesome cast is Sean Bean and the always funny Nathan Lane.
I have heard people go on about how awesome The Hunger Games books are but I still had no idea what the story was about, well now I finally do thanks to the theatrical trailer that was release a couple of days ago and now I’m REALLY keen to get into it. The whole concept of this distopian future where youngin’s have to battle it out for survival seems right up my ally. Have a look at the trailer and see what I mean!
I’m not the biggest Katy Perry fan to be honest. I liked her first album before anyone else caught on so by the time the rest of the world was into her & blasting her songs on the radio, I was over it. Then came the likes of ‘California Girls’ which I hate, that song annoys me so much which is unusual since I love trashy pop songs. Then one day I heard ‘The One That Got Away’ on the radio and BAM I was back on the Katy Perry fan wagon. I pretty much skip the first 4 or 5 songs of the album Teenage Dream & get straight to ‘Peacock’ (which is the best dance track on the whole album). The rest of the album I quite enjoy, not as uptempo as the first half but better none the less.
Well I was quite surprised when Katy released the video for ‘The One That Got Away’ and I was actually moved by it. It’s a sad tale and not quite what I was expecting. Sure it pretty much looks like your watching Zooey Deschanel throughout the whole thing which made me want to see a video clip with them two in it, I don’t know why but I just do alright! So prepared to be a little saddened…or not.
Well the official trailer for The Iron Lady was released online a couple of days ago and it has me even more intrigued to see how they plan on portraying the only female UK Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. While the teaser trailer released nothing about the mood of this movie, this trailer is starting to show us some real grit and to be honest, watching this trailer, I keep forgetting that it’s Meryl Streep playing The Iron Lady herself. I wonder though if this movie is set to make Thatcher a hero in the eyes of the modern viewer or whether it will stick true to the split opinion over her 11year reign as one of the most powerful leaders the UK has ever seen.
I also just found out and bought tickets to a preview screening of The Iron Lady at my local cinema for the 7th of December! So I’ll be able to give a proper review before the movie is actually out.
Release Dates:
Australia: December 26th, 2011
US: January 13th, 2012 Nationwide, (December 30th, 2011 in select theatres)
WTF NBC!? So the awesome show that constantly receives great reviews and has quite a strong fan base is being sidelined for the rest of the year by NBC. In the United States it has always struggled with ratings and so they’re replacing the time slot reserved for Community with 30Rock instead! Boo you whores!
This means that there won’t be any new Community around the ‘interwebs’ either until next year sometime. NBC have said that the show isn’t cancelled but haven’t told us when it will be back either. I don’t think this bodes well for the show as a whole, I hope this isn’t the start of the end for Community but it’s not looking good.
So I know I have completely dissapeared for the past few days but I’m going to blame the fact that a) nothing really happens on the weekend worth noting for the most part and b) my last uni assignment for the semester! YAY! So for the next few weeks, expect far more regular updates.
So time to talk some trash that most people may not care about. Firstly, Lady Gaga and Boomkack (Laurieann Gibson) have split up! Gibson has always been a loose cannon in my opinion and apparently having her own reality show has caused her head to swell and probably think she’s bigger and better than Gaga… Well step off bitch because the only reason you have as much spotlight as you do right now is because Gaga let you have. Gibson has been Gaga’s creative director and prime choreographer for ages, pretty much since her meteoric rise to fame and I will give it to her, she really did help create and push Gaga to the top, but apparently issues have been building between the Queen of Pop herself & Boomkack to the point where Gaga fired her the other day.
I’m not sad to see Gibson go, I’ve never been the biggest fan of her attitude or her choreography, there’s much better out there. Lady Gaga has a fantastic creative team around her so and she’s already so successful that I doubt this will even matter at all. It’s a shame for the sake of all the work they’ve created together that it has come to this but time for a new direction and a fresh director!
Also in today’s Trash Talk, Brad Pitt revealed in an Australian 60Minutes interview that he plans on only acting for another 3years and then probably get into behind the scenes production work. This is a shame really because I think as he’s getting older, he’s becoming a far better actor and I’m starting to find him attractive again in that “older hottie” way. He just looked ick the last couple of years for the most part, especially with that gross beard he had going for a while. But hey, we’ve all heard the ‘retirement’ tale from plenty of performers before that never eventuates because “oh this role was just too good to give up” or “I really felt that this was the right album and that I had to release it for the fans” blah blah blah… so I doubt very much that 3yrs will be the absolute deadline, but time will tell.
